Is it a reel? I’m not sure.
is it a Hornpipe? a Slide?

Odd, this one. I tried it with single quarter notes instead of the many triplets, to simplify and get to the basics of the tune but that didn’t seem to help much.

What a ridiculous tune!

Hi there,
noboby mentionned, but as far as I know :
this is a tune by great guitar player Ian Carr !

Diamond Mountain/Road Drill

Yea listen to it on Ian Carr’s album Who He, its called Road Drill and its absolutely brilliant. I’m sure Dr Dow will change his opinion of the tune!

Re: The Diamond Mountain

Does anyone have the chords for this, as played with Sharon Shannon?

Five years late, John, but here you go:

Re: The Diamond Mountain

I’m not really sure why Sharon Shannon chose to call this tune “The Diamond Mountain” when Ian Carr calls it “Road Drill” - I assume the latter is the correct title. All she says on the sleeve notes is, “Written by an old friend of ours, Ian Carr from Newcastle, England - a wonderful guitarist and a great character.”

Road Drill, X:2

Road Drill, in G, as played on “Who He?”.

I heard this in a session last weekend, flatpicked on guitar, and thought I recognised it but couldn’t think from where until I realised Sharon Shannon had recorded it more than twenty years ago.
