Tune was composed by John Joe Casey (RIP), a well-known fiddler from Clarecastle Co. Clare. Won 1st Prize at All-Ireland Fleadh in 1961.
I always thought John Joe was a concertina player. Maybe he also played the fiddle. I have a tape of him playing this tune on the concertina.
Have just heard on Clare FM that a CD, The Tiermaclane Fancy, is being released in Clarecastle this weekend as a tribute to John Joe Casey who died five years ago.
Although well known locally as a fiddle and concertina player and composer (The Fergus reel, among others), his music deserves a wider recognition and, hopefully, this CD will help to achieve that. Available from Custy´s.
I have no more details, but intend buying it while in Ireland next month and will post details in the Recordings section if no-one else has done so.
