The Number Nine

Composed by Andrea Beaton — the daughter of Kinnon Beaton and the grandchild of the late Donald Angus Beaton and Elizabeth Beaton — this brooding strathspey can be heard on her album "Branches."

Tricking you at first into thinking that it’ll be a double tonic tune, it satisfies all of the modal sweet tooth’s desire for possibilities to harmonically unfold. I especially love that slinky triadic bit at the close of the tune.
