The Cradling Arms Of Cruachan
This is my setting of the tune played here in this video by talented flautist and whistler, Orlaith McCauliffe:

I really like this version, and I think that my setting is definitely inadequate to cover all the nuances and variations that she plays. 🙂
Have fun with it!
Re: The Cradling Arms Of Cruachan
nice tune for a rainy British Columbia afternoon
Re: The Cradling Arms Of Cruachan
Composed by flute / whistle player Des Cafferkey I believe. It’s the opening track on his CD "Achill Air".
Re: The Cradling Arms Of Cruachan
No idea why this setting has been put in as a 4/4 reel - surely it’s 3/4?
Re: The Cradling Arms Of Cruachan
I started out transcribing it in 3/4, and then I ran into some problems, because the bars didn’t add up, so I switched to 4/4. That was turning out great for a while, until the bars and the notes started getting out of whack again, but by that time, I just wanted to be done with it. I figured that anyone who could read the notes and listen to the video could pretty well make out how to play the tune.
I hope I haven’t offended anyone. I am not the most learned musician on the block, but I like to think I have heart.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Fair weather and full sails!
Re: The Cradling Arms Of Cruachan
The bars probably didn’t add up because you included the pickup notes in the first part.
Here’s my take (I’ve only moved the bar lines):
X: 1
T: The Cradling Arms Of Cruachan
R: waltz/whatever
M: 3/4
L: 1/8
K: Dmaj

I think this is easier to read (and makes more sense).
Re: The Cradling Arms Of Cruachan
Thank you! I had forgotten about pickup notes when I was originally transcribing. Sorry about my mistake. I will do better next time.
