The Silver Hand

I transcribed this slow double jig from Liz Knowles great album, Making Time. At one of Open The Door For Three’s house concert at our place a couple of years ago, Liz mentioned that it was composed by a friend of hers, but I haven’t found the name anywhere to assign credit. This notation is roughly the version she plays the first time through on the album. The rest of the track is replete with wonderful variations of the tune. We’re starting to play this one at the sessions in Houston.

Re: The Silver Hand

Was just informed this was composed by Johnny Brennan, fiddler & guitar player from the Philadelphia area.

The Silver Hand, X:2

As played at the Wednesday night contra dances in Austin, Texas.

Re: The Silver Hand

Hello Folks, I wrote ( or channeled, lol) the Silver Hand maybe in the 1980’s. Liz Knowles heard me play the tune and She learned it on the spot. She said she loved the tune and messed around with it all the time. Her recording, variations, execution, arrangement of the tune, IMHO, is really beautifully done. The sheet music here looks pretty much like my version, which is kind of how Liz starts it off. I am glad people enjoy the tune and I thank Liz for bringing it to so many people.
