Betsy Baker

This is the reel version of the tune Betsy Baker I mentioned in notes on the polka (see the polka for more detail). The tune follows the polka except for the first part of the B tune, which has a nice variation.

Betsy Baker, X:3

This is a version from the Isle of Man. I have a feeling there is a song to it but I can’t think what just now.

Re: Betsy Baker

I’m puzzled by this being "a version from the Isle of Man". The polka version (see: https://thesession.org/tunes/13073) is from the Isle of Man, collected traditionally, and is also a popular 19c ballad tune to which there are known words.

The only time I’ve heard it played there as a reel was when I played it in a session and it was taken as a bit of a novelty. Unless it’s been taken up and become popular when I’ve been away from home ….?
