Miss Stewart Of Garth

A splendid Cape Breton reel in one of my favorite keys. Transcription taken mostly from "The Dances Down Home" by Joe Cormier. Bill Lamey also recorded a driving version which sounds more like D mixolydian due to his tendency to use F-sharps. The two versions differ in other ways as well, and I can see a lot of room for variation with this tune. Often paired with Lieutenant Howard Douglass’s strathspey.

Miss Stewart Of Garth, X:2

Here is Bill Lamey’s version, with some of his customary double stops included. According to the Traditional Tune Archive, the tune was composed by Duncan McKercher, and there is also a lesser-known strathspey version.
