"A Drop in the Ocean:
Traditional Irish Tunes collected by Josephine Keegan"
ISBN: ‘none’, self-published
" ~ this new anthology compiles a selection of the tunes Josephine has been assiduously gathering since she was a child. ~ 260 reels, 54 hornpipes, 131 double jigs, 46 single jigs, 26 slip jigs, 33 miscellaneous tunes and 58 melodies recently composed by other musicians; in other words, more than 600 tunes in total."
"The Hen and Her Clutch" appears in the Larry Smyth MS of c.1890-1920. Smyth (d.1930) was from Abbeylara, Co. Longford. Keegan sourced this tune through a Longford contact, who in turn sourced it from Fr. John Quinn of Gortletteragh, Co. Leitrim who has a copy of the MS since it was rediscovered in c.1969. He is a proponent of local Longford and Leitrim music and used this tune from the Smyth MS in one of his Ceili Bands in the 1970s.
