Ram’s Horns

In keeping with my love of D dorian tunes, here’s a very old Scottish reel from the 1734 Drummond Castle Manuscript. It was collected (or composed?) by David Young. Fiddler David Greenberg recorded it on his album "Tunes Until Dawn", which, according to Alan Snyder’s Cape Breton Fiddle Recording Index, is the only recording of this tune in that tradition. That recording is also the basis for my transcription. Greenberg was obviously trying to revive this great old reel, and for good reason.

Ram’s Horns, X:2

Here’s an ABC transcription by Andrew Kuntz of the original version. It’s rather different and I put it here just to show that.
