The Fifth Flight

This tune was written by Jennifer Wrigley (Orkney) and the title refers to a flat she and her sister Hazel
were staying in whilst in Edinburgh. The fifth flight of stairs was apparently the killer… She is quite happy
for her tunes to be posted on the Session.

Re: The Fifth Flight

Gosh, is Eb the original key?
We play this in D.

Re: The Fifth Flight

I’ll take that as a challenge, Susan - Eb on my B/C box!

Re: The Fifth Flight

Yes, Eb is the original key, but Jenny (at our fiddle class) provided us also with the alternative version in D
which is certainly a lot easier. I’d mislaid my copy of it in D and thought, well, Eb was Jenny’s key! Might post
in D when I have the energy.

The Fifth Flight, X:2

Easier version in D. Jennifer calls the tune an air - so not properly a reel. She’s written a 2nd part harmony for
fiddle - very pleasant.

Re: The Fifth Flight

Nice tune. When Jenny started teaching us this, I didn’t think it had to do with flights of stairs. (Could be airline flights or birds flocking?? ) She explained all. I couldn’t play it in Eb but manage OK in D maj.
