The Marino Waltz

I was taught this lovely relaxing waltz tune a couple of weeks ago. I believe it has been recorded by The Dubliners.

The Marino Waltz

The Marino Waltz, according to a Google search, has been recorded not only by The Dubliners, but by The Chieftains, The Pogues, and, presumably, many others.
This tune is not to be confused with “Marino Casino”, an entirely different tune written by and recorded by The Dubliners on their 40th Anniversary DVD.

Marino Waltz

The Dubliner’s recording is on their “Celebration” album.

The Marino Waltz

A further comment I feel I should make is that there is one version of this tune on JC’s database which is quite incorrectly transcribed in 6/8 (jig time!) - each bar of the 6/8 corresponding to 2 bars of the correct 3/4 waltz time.
Trevor

composed by John Sheahan of The Dubliners…
it soon became popular all over Ireland

The Marino Waltz

Wasn’t this the tune used in the ‘Bord na Mona’ ads on telly years ago.
Wow it brings back memories. I love this tune.

John Shehan composed this while in his mother’s house in Marino, I believe. That’s how he got the name for it. I think he’s from the Marino area himself.

Marino Waltz

Composed by John Sheehan of the Dubliners and if I remember right he first played it in on the Late Late Show in the late eighties when the Dubliners were celebrating 25 years. The Irish Turf (Peat) Board used it in their advert on TV selling Briquettes (compressed peat) and the rest is history, and yes he did write it in Marino in Dublin.

Marino Waltz

I think it is a lovely tune I heard at a pub very soothing as well

Marino Waltz for Tin Whistle!

Hi I was wondering if it was possible to obtain sheet music for this on the tin whistle??

Marino Waltz

A lovely easy piece for a D flute (one of the first bunch of tunes that I tried) - good for practising octave jumps 🙂 Should go straight onto a D whistle, no problem! - Use the sheet music under the tab at the top or just play along to the midi.

Marino Waltz

Ooops - I forgot the middle C - just find a pleasant variation, I think I go to the c an octave up, suits the existing jumps in the tune.

Marino Waltz

… or just substitute an E for those middle C’s. Works for me.

Marino waltz

Both the Marino waltz and Casino Marino ( waltz) wee r written by John Sheahan of The Dubliners. There is an old Casino Marino which gave him the idea for the name .

Marino Waltz

Also recorded by Andre Rieu…….what a great tune….well done John Sheahan
