Mrs Dundas Of Arniston has been added to 8 tunebooks.
This is the first tune of the second track (The Big Mistake) of Sharon Shannon’s "Out the Gap".
I can’t find it anywhere in ABC, so here it is for you all.
Anyone know the real name of it? Sounds very Scottish to me.
I’m fairly sure this is on an early "Battlefield Band" album.
The tune is called "Mrs Dundas of Arniston" and was composed by William Gow.
Thank you very much for the information Nigel!
Originally in the key of C: http://tunearch.org/wiki/Mrs._Dundas_of_Arniston
This is weird. It’s showing up as being on 11 recordings, but it’s nothing of the sort. When you look at the recordings, it’s turning up as the "Gan Ainm" entries, where a tune title is unknown.
This reel is normally played in C and sounds so much better in that key. The original notation is also in C
Sorry I should add that although the notation I have is in C. The original MS is in D maj. composed by Nathaniel Gow.
Yes I know it’s in C originally, but Sharon Shannon plays it in D on her "Out the Gap" album, and that’s where I got it from.
"…composed by Nathaniel Gow…"
Although Nathaniel Gow composed a tune called "MISS Dundas of Arniston", it’s a different tune - a reel in D - not the one above. The reel in C was composed by Nathaniel’s older brother William (1751-1791).
