The Proclamation (Forógra Phoblachta Na HÉireann)
Composition of Michael Rooney from his Macalla Suite in commemoration of the centennial of the 1916 Rising, this piece refers to the Proclamation of the Irish Republic (An Forógra, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proclamation_of_the_Irish_Republic). The program notes for this piece say "This piece is slow and stately initially and transitions into a patriotic march - a call to arms."
We often use this piece as the music for the dance The Gay Gordons, traditionally done at the beginning of every Irish dance in the Philadelphia, PA, USA region.
Despite the session.org notation, This is a march, not a barndance, two radically different types of tunes, at least when played in the Philadelphia, PA, USA region.
A live version of An Forógra performed by Michael Rooney and June McCormick can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIUhl7P8WGo
Re: The Proclamation
The actual spelling of the alternate title in Irish is Forógra Phoblachta Na h-Éireann. Note the lower case h in h-Éireann. I’ve tried to edit it, but it keeps coming up as an upper case H. Is mór an trua é!
