The Elizabethan Seranade

I heard Vin Garbett play this tune on a generation whistle many years ago at the Traitor’s Gate Folk club in Adelaide. It’s such a cute tune when played on a whistle.

Composed in the early 1950s by Ronald Binge, this piece could be categorised under "British Light Classical". Other well known pieces in the same style include "Sleepy Lagoon" and "Sailing By" (known to BBC Radio 4 listeners are the themes to Deseret Island Discs and the late night Shipping Forecast respectively).

I have been playing a version of this for some time on a Bb whistle, from memory. It was the signature tune of a British series called "The Railway Children" on BBC (one has to be old to remember). The original tune has an interesting "filip" at the end.
Good to see others play it. Very moody on the Low D!

Re: The Elizabethan Serenade

I too thought it was the Railway Children signature tune but I can find nothing that confirms this. Anyone know where there is a reference to this?
It’s a beautiful tune.
