What’s the origin of this one - it’s nice?
it’s got a long thread of history & various seams off that too, but one flow seems to converge around phillip powel of brecon around 1635 and skower sydanen. skower is is-cywair, which implies it had other forms before then; cywair, uwch-gywair &c.
sidanen, sydanen (silken beauty, in english) brings us - detouring through dargason & mwynen cynwyd etc, via cloth to various laundry titled tunes - crys y mab, cwm bath, yr olchfa, not forgetting irish washerwoman. the name sidanen was associated with elizabeth tudor.
