This great tune, written by Esko Järvela after a trip to Shetland, is very much a mashup of the styles of Finland and Shetland. It’s a cross between a reel and a polska, and can be beat either in 3 or in 4 depending on how you feel, as shown in the two different but identical transcriptions. It’s named after the Shetland Rose: not a flower, but the name for empty beer cans found at the side of the street in Shetland.
