John O'Groats has been added to 6 tunebooks.
Published in "The Köhlers’ Violin Repository Book III". John Bain, Wick(low?) is named as the composer.
Why "Wick(low)" ? Wick is a town about 20 miles from John O’Groats. A bit more likely, don’t you think ?
Wick is a town and royal burgh in Caithness, in the far north of Scotland
You’re most likely right 🙂. There is a full stop after Wick(.) which I interpreted as a possible abbreviation. My knowledge of the local Scottish geography is a bit limited ;) and Wicklow (although in Ireland) is probably more known to people outside the British Isles.
