This strathspey is generally called Miss Lyall or Miss Lyall’s in Shetland, Scotland, and Cape Breton.

Brian Conway

Is this the tune that Brian Conway plays before ‘The Copper Plate’?
If it is, then I’ve found it after a search lasting years ….. hurrah!!!

Brian Conway

…. actually, it’s not exactly as I remember it (I dont have the tape anymore and I have it only in memory) anyone know the Brian Conway version ????

Sandy MacIntyre, Cape Breton

Nae luck………..

Welcome to the "Session" , Kylies, and hard luck with your first posting, but someone got there before you. Always best to check the title of the tune you’re posting in the "Search" function first, or a fragment of the abcs using the "advanced" function. Better luck next time.

To my surprise, this tune sounds really lovely in Amaj. Did you learn it in the key, Kylies?

Many well-known tunes were already posted on this site, but there’re tons of Cape Breton tunes which haven’t introduced here. Hope you will add some of them.

The Cat That Kittled In Jamie’s Wig

I have recently seen these lines in a collection of Perthshire Ballads, Rhymes and Fragments:

Anti-Jacobite Fragments

The cat has kittled in Charlie’s wig,
The cat has kittled in Charlie’s wig,
There’s ane o’ them living, and twa o’ them dead,
The cat has kittled in Charlie’s wig.

Cape Breton Setting

I’ve added a more Cape Breton style setting of this tune, and closer to the version in the above video, but with my own flair to it.

I always learned it as The Cat that Kittled in Jamie’s Wig. It’s the Donegal setting of this tune!
