Hermione’s

A jig in a minor key that’s played in central Maryland. Sounds good with "Tobin’s Jig" after it. (Banish Misfortune works well with it too)

Re: Hermione’s

Has some resemblance to Sean Ryan’s "The Castle". Know of any recordings for this tune, Kris?

Re: Hermione’s

Is there a typo in bars 7 & 8 of the A part? There is a B# which is a bit odd (since B# is C, which is already a natural). Should this actually be C#? And it looks as though the final bar should go up through a C# - like bar 8 of the B part.

Re: Hermione’s

Thank you Bazza. There WAS a typo. I think I’ve corrected it.

Re: Hermione’s

NfldWhistler: I’m downlaoding "The Castle" now.

Re: Hermione’s

Nfld: I wonder if it’s a variation? I wish the various versions of "The Castle" had chords.

Re: Hermione’s

I think it’s different enough to be it’s own tune. It might just have been inspired by parts of The Castle. Some parts being transposed to Emin, some remaining in the original key (Ador).

For instance, the phrases in the B Part which go to "e2" (first bar) and and "d2" (3rd bar) feel very much like what "The Castle" does (which is how I noticed the resemblance), albeit, in a different key signature.

In the A Part, this tune drops down into the low A’s & B’s like The Castle does, BUT, it isn’t the end of a phrase in this case, and, that tune is in Ador whereas this in Emin.

You can see the chords to a version of The Castle here:

Re: Hermione’s

Looking at it more, the A Parts start similarly in structure, and they digress after the 2nd bar. They both go down to lower notes, but this happens at different parts of the A Part.

The B Parts are far closer in structure, although not exact. Transposing this tune to Amin/Ador wouldn’t result exactly in The Castle (not the setting in the vashinceltictunes link anyways, some versions of The Castle do go a bit differently).

Re: Hermione’s

This is a fun jig with a nice, dark vibe. Reminds me a of The Coleraine. I need to look at "newest tune settings" more often.

Re: Hermione’s

Indeed!

My hunch is whomever composed it forgot exactly how Sean Ryan’s The Castle went, or, based it loosely on that tune.

Re: Hermione’s

Fairly sure there’s a typo in the 8th/16th bar of the A part in X1. The first three notes are currently written as "B,C^D^", which should probably be "B,^C^D", with a low C#.

Re: Hermione’s

Sure enough, Nfld. That IS a typo. I think I’ve fixed it. Thanks for the correction.
