This is the first tune on Kevin Burk’s album If the cap fits, I asked
Kevin if he had a name for it and he told me he learned it along time ago but never had a title so if anybody out there knows one
they may post it. I play all the tunes from that album so I will post the missing ones soon.
It’s "John Kelly’s". Also comes in D dorian. Lovely tune.
Nice Tune. Thanks.
I learned the final bar of the first part as |A2 FE D3 A|
On fiddle, try sliding up to the first B. For variation, in the next to last bar of the second part the high g can be rolled as well as the f. Really nice tune!
A Kerry reel - key??
I’m a bit confused here - The ABC states the key as E min, then procedes to sharpen all the F’s and C’s. Is this just not a plain old D maj reel, as it also seems to end up on D?
(or have I missed something?)
It’s E dorian surely?
or E dorian ?
Corrected version of John Kelly’s
Here it is in the right key with some beef and potaters.
T: John Kelly’s (A Kerry Reel)
S:Based on Kevin Burke’s version from ‘If The Cap Fits’. Transcribed by Mark MacDiarmid (Lead in note is 1/8 A).

very confusingly similar to Michael Kennedy’s reel
(I first heard both tunes off Kevin Burke’s recordings, Michael Kennedy’s appears on Up Close)
John Kelly’e Reel
Really great playing of this tune by Teada, second tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJifxcbxWA4
Old Concertina Reel, X:4
From John Kelly’s playing, transcribed by Henrik Norbeck. This is only the barest bones of what John played though, even a 30 second sample shows an utter barrage of variations: https://archive.comhaltas.ie/search?tab=tracks&q=Old+Concertina+Reel#/tracks/14867
