Mairi’s Tune

A great wee tune by Ross Ainslie. He can be heard playing it at around 6.30 in this video:

I’ve no idea how it was originally scored, but I decided the easiest approach was to give up on the concept of a time signature and just put barlines where it seemed appropriate. Not all the bars add up to a whole number of beats. Sorry.

Mairi’s Tune, X:2

Thanks to those who messaged me to point out a missing note in the second part - I’ve now corrected in the original setting.

A couple of people pointed out that the tune *almost* fits in a normal eight-bar structure - I agree it does, but I don’t think it’s clear to read it in that way. However, I’ve added a second setting written out in that way. Exactly the same notes - if you learn it from this second one make sure you listen to the tune as it really doesn’t make the phrasing clear in my opinion…!
