Saltón De Candamu, X:2

With a few subtle differences to X:1, this setting is transcribed from Llan de Cubel, from their 1992 album L’Otru Llau de la Mar (The Other Side of the Sea). The sleeve notes say that saltones are "lively dances which can be played slower without losing their identity" and that this one is from the Candamo region in Asturias.

Lovely!

Re: Saltón De Candamu

davidfm tells me that this tune is not, in fact, traditional: "It was written by Elías García. Who was a part of Llan de Cubel, Felpeyu… and who, sadly, died in September 2019…"

Elías García had been involved with the cream of modern Asturian musical groups including Tuenda, Llan de Cubel and Felpeyu. He was also greatly associated with teaching music, so his sudden death must have left the Asturian music scene devastated.

Re: Saltón De Candamu

Yes. He was a innovator, a fantastic musician but above all that, an overall a great guy.
He was only 50 years old, so it was quite a shock.

In Asturies, this tune is usually called "Candanín" that’s the name of the set which opens the thrird album of Llan de Cubel "L’otru lláu de la mar" (the other side of the sea). My favorite album of them.
