The Silver Strand

I have never heard this lovely tune before, it should be composed by Nollaigh Casey,
as far I could find out. So now it’s penned down. I heard it played by a friend in a FB group.
The tune are played by Cillian Vallely and Kevin Crawfords CD ‘On Common Ground’
but in a weird key….and London Lasses play it in A

The Silver Strand, X:2

This version should be close to the first playing of that set by Nasc (Pádraig Rynne - Concertina ; Tara Breen - Fiddle ; Jim Murray - Guitar) recorded live in Ennis as part of the Consairtín festival in April 2021.

According to the set’s note, these are three reels which we have been playing together for some time. Nollaig Casey composed the first one and named it after a well known beach “Silver strand” in Salthill, Co. Galway.
“Caha Mountains” was composed by Nollaig’s uncle, John Dwyer and is sometimes referred to as Finbar Dwyer’s.
The final reel “Mc Govern’s” is a very old tune which we learned from Matt Molloy.

These three reels is #1 taken from their 2021 release Nasc:…
I am expecting it soon 🙂-

Note for fiddlers : as you may know = means to put your finger over 2 strings at the same time when playing only the first note (here play d first and prepare to play next G) —– means to let the finger in place, so = — means to keep your finger on both strings.

Re: The Silver Strand

In my previous comment the “we” from the set’s note means obviously the people from Nasc.
