Re: Excelsior

It’s in Ryan’s Mammoth Collection (1883). Sean McGuire recorded a dramatic setting in the early 1970s with "The Mason’s Apron" (on The Best of Sean McGuire Outlet OLP 1006, 1971). James Scott Skinner composed another hornpipe of the same name.

Re: Excelsior

Excelsior is the slogan of New York State. It could be that the song originated there. Sounds a bit similar to some Welsh hornpipes. Cute little song though.
