This is a composition of Paddy O’Brien (from Co. Offaly) and appears in his Tune Collection vol. one.
He plays it in this key (C major with an odd (but cool) F#) so it is very suitable for a B/C accordion
or a C/G concertina. I suppose a flute player (or C#/D box player) might prefer to transpose it up one step
to D. I find myself humming this tune to myself around the house, and I particularly like playing it on the
concertina.
Re: The Foxhunter’s Chorus
When I posted the tune, it linked to Paddy’s record "The Stranger at the Gate".
Re: The Foxhunter’s Chorus
I decided to change the key to G major. The tune seems to start in C major, but each part ends on G,
and there are no F naturals in it. So I guess it is really in G but with a strong C feeling.
