Paddy Hayes’s

A fun little jig I learned from Karen Tweed. In her words:

"The jig was learned by button accordionist (from Newtownforbes, Co Longford) Jim McLoughlin who taught it to me. He attributes it to button accordionist Paddy Hayes, who I knew when he lived in London - marvelous accordionist and mighty character. Hilarious, loving and so encouraging to me as a young player. He moved back to Ireland some years ago but I am not sure where - possibly Leitrim. Paddy was part of that great London-Irish accordion scene and probably knew Finbarr Dwyer and definitely was one of the group that included players such as Raymond Rowland and John Bowe. For me, Paddy Hayes’ music shines out like a beacon yet he was never really celebrated in the same way as Raymond, John or others. For me, Paddy Hayes’ music has a magical lyrical quality all of its own. As you can see, I’m a big fan.

I believe the tune came from a cassette recording of Paddy Hayes and I have never met anyone else who knows this tune so Jim and I wonder if it is a composition of Paddy’s."
