Tinker’s Stick

“slainte is ” has requested this one, and that’s how I came here. It may well have been a favourite of Michael Dwyer, but I first heard it played almost 30 years ago by Sean O‘Rourke, flute-player with “Alba” and the JSD Band, under the title “The Tinker’s Stick”. It is in Breandan Breathnach’s 1st volume of “Ceol Rince na h’Eireann” under that title as well. I had decided to post it in reply to “slainte”’s request, but rememebered hearing Matt Molloy play it on his “Stony Steps” album so checked first. Turns out gian marco has posted it 2 years ago.
A very simple reel, but very melodic.
The order of tunes on the “Stony Steps” set is wrong on the sleeve notes. This is the first tune, “Stony Steps” follows, and the last tune is “Griffin Of The Bridge”.

Thanks, Kenny.

Michael Dwyer’s Favourite a la Oisin MacDiarmada

Thanks to this clip (http://comhaltas.ie/music/detail/comhaltaslive_214_1_duet_with_louise_mulcahy_and_oisin_macdiarmada) being posted on a recent discussion thread, I listened to Oisin playing this simple single reel, solo. So here’s a transcription based on his first time through the tune:

O’Neill’s

“O’Neill’s 1001” has a nice version of this called The New Policeman. The A section is pretty different though; it starts on the IV. Kinda cool.

Gan Ainm

Hello all, this is my first tune added here so please be patient ! I am sure I learnt it off a flute recording somewhere years ago but can’t find it any where. I’ve tried a few permutations in the search here but nothing pops up. Any one recognise it and give it a name ? Cheers.
