Brighton Waltz

Another from my sessions old tunebook, ‘Brighton Waltz’ by Mike Mussell, 2005. Mike is/was a melodeon player and repairer in the Brighton area, and the gentleman who compiled the tunebook in question. He also has/had a youtube channel under the username ‘Mazalaar’, where he played some of the tunes we still play at the session today. He hasn’t uploaded to his channel in 5 years and no longer attends the session in it’s current incarnation, so I do wonder if he has passed on. I owe him a lot for his tunebook efforts.

Re: Brighton

Thank you Jared. This is an absolutely lovely tune. I am learning it to play for my mother at the holidays. She is an oldster but can still waltz in her chair. If you would consider sharing other tunes from Mike or your session book it would be much appreciated.

Re: Brighton

Whit - Thank you for your comment. Many of the tunes in the tune-book are common English tunes, some Scottish, Irish, Breton and other tunes available on the session or elsewhere (folk tune finder or the morris ring for example). When I come across ones that I can’t find online I write them up and share them.

I’ll have a cursory glance through the book for more or Mike’s work, if I find one I’ll post it.

Best wishes, happy learning and playing

Lovely tune! Thanks for posting

Re: Brighton

Yes, nice tune: the multiple quavers give it a mazurka feel!

Re: Brighton

Who knew us Brighton residents had there own Waltz! I felt obliged to play this one on flute accompanied by my husband on guitar. . It’s a great tune.
