I believe this tune comes from the Kohler collection, and actually bears no title there. Someone please correct me otherwise…

I first heard it, and really liked it, on Natalie MacMaster’s Live 2CD Set, on the Grand Promenade set of the 2nd disk.
She calls it “Laybourne’s Hornpipe.”
I had to search all over the net before I found that it was also called Kohler’s and eventually found it on JC’s TuneFinder.

Good work GM… this version is close to all the Cape Breton players’ take on it.
I’ve just been at a session (in West Sussex, UK) where one of the tunes played - by an English melodeonist - was the Savage Hornpipe, which is very popular locally. It is remarkably similar to the tune above.
