Where’s it from?

Personally I call Finland this, but everywhere from Iceland to Alaska claim this title. Commonly attributed to Norway, I think.

When I asked ‘Where’s it from?’ I wasn’t thinking geographically (as perhaps you know, JayN). I meant what’s its provenance: i.e. who wrote/performed/recorded it? What’s its connection with tunes played at sessions, whether or not in the Irish tradition ? If it’s an ‘own composition’, would it be appropriate to acknowledge it as such when posting?

From the Cara website:
“The album features nine captivating original songs and tunes, two traditional ballads and selected tunes from contemporary composers.”

My research says that band members Juergen Treyz and Gudrun Walther wrote the tune (ISWC: T-803.600.456-6).

Re: Land Of The Midnight Sun

Yeah, you are right. This is a tune from Cara, written by Gudrun Walther and Juergen Treyz. Although it is neither a traditional tune nor really appropriate for traditional sessions, it’s a lovely waltz. So I decided to transcribe and share it. Perhaps some people fancy to play this tune, too 😉

And it’s actually attributed to Sweden. At least this is what Gudrun Walther mentioned during one of Cara’s gigs.
