Foghorn hornpipe

Nice hornpipe, Kurt!

Gathering Nuts

This was the second tune of the ‘Squirrel Set’ performed by ‘The Spailpíns’ a Dublin based group. It was taken from a reel to reel recording I took in the 1960’s. The last Tune of the set is the ‘Squirrel’s Hornpipe, which I have posted earlier. I am not sure if these are the correct names for these hornpipes, but these were the names they gave during their performance.

The Last

Played by Verena Commins and Julie Langan on (their only?) recording "Fonnchaoi".
It comes from the Grier collection and is published in Ceol Rince na hEireann vol 4.
They call it "The Last Hornpipe" because it is the last tune (no. 225) in that book.
(The preview is showing big phrase markings on the second lines of A and B. I don’t know why they are there!)

ABC triplets

I had written (3FGA) when I should have written (3FGA
Somehow that caused a big slur on the whole second line.
To a programmer, unmatched parentheses seem wrong!

Re: Foghorn

In Breathnach’s vol.4 this tune was left untitled, as it had not been given a name in the Grier collection, from where he had sourced the tune. The ‘Foghorn’ title is a recent invention - and hardly descriptive of the tune anyway.
