pbsinclair42: do you have any information about the source of this tune? I understood that there were several collections from Sexdrega (collectively, the Sexdrega Samlingen), containing in all about 500 tunes. I’ve come across a few. Don’t suppose you have a number for this one?

Re: Polonaise Från Sexdrega

I’m afraid not, I’ve nothing more than a name and a melody.

Re: Polonaise Från Sexdrega

Is it Swedish or what?

Re: Polonaise Från Sexdrega

Yes, Swedish. Examples of tunes from the Sexdrega collections can be found at http://www.folkwiki.se/?n=Notb%C3%B6cker.Notb%C3%B6cker&action=search&q=Sexdrega . For ‘Polonaise’, I think Swedish tunes of this type would generally be called ‘Polskas’ - but they mean the same thing: i.e. ‘Polish’ .

(For anyone interested in trad Swedish music, Folkwiki is an excellent resource).

A bit more information, in case anyone wants to know … Some historical details about the Sexdrega collections can be found at:- https://musikverket.se/svensktvisarkiv/artikel/sexdregasamlingen-2/

The article can be translated automatically into the usual sort of machine-English, but beware rendition of ‘polskor’ (plural of polska) as ‘pole shoes’, and ‘polonäs’ (polonaise) as ’pole nose’.

The tune shown above is from the 2nd of the three collections, but I haven’t tracked down the number.
