The Road To Loch Nam Bairneas

Beautiful tune composed by Allan MacDonald.
Transcribed off Beòlach’s album, *All Hands*.

Re: The Road To Loch Nam Bairneas

Quite popular recently.
Ross Couper and Tom Oakes play it in F#m. I also heard Adam Sutherland and Emma Tomlinson play it at last year’s Fèis Rois nan Inbheach (it was either in Em or Am - can’t quite remember). So a very malleable tune.
I’ll maybe post Ross Couper’s take.

The Road To Loch Nam Bairneas, X:2

This is roughly how Ross Couper and Tom Oakes play Loch nam Bairneas, in F#m (not A).

Not a reel, of course. Allan MacDonald calls it a quickstep. It’s in both The Nineties Collection and The Moidart Collection II. In the former it’s pointed but in the latter (and later volume) it’s straight.

And I agree with you, bdh: a beautiful, wonderful tune - one of my favourites of the last couple of years.
