The Bicycle

A simple sounding tune, learnt in the 70s, probably from Johnny Leary. It may have morphed in the intervening years. A fuller rendering is in the book (JOL.15); Breandán Breathnach collected it from Johnny in 1973. He then transcribed Denis Murphy playing it as a reel, on the BOX! (JOL.16) I don’t believe either are on the site but the melody seems familiar; the closest I get is The Jolly Tinker(https://thesession.org/tunes/1754), but it’s adistant relative. (Not sure about the key but Edor gives two sharps.)

The Bicycle, X:2

I got this setting from Frances Marriott. She reckons it’s a Denis Murphy tune that may have started life as a reel but was given a new life as a slide by Johnny Leary.
