Oh Onochie O

I first heard this on Bonnie Rideout’s "Scottish Fire" with Jerry O’Sullivan playing uilleann pipes. I’m not sure who composed the tune, but would love to hear if any of you know more…
This is my first submission here, so I hope I did everything okay…
Be nice to me, haha πŸ™‚

Re: Oh Onochie O

Just another quick note – I would have classified this as an "air" but didn’t see the option. It’s in 3/4, but it feels more like an air to me. Again, I’d love to hear if anyone has more details on this tune, or other settings of it πŸ™‚

Here’s a video link to the recording I learned it from – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNkaN2T0HQE

Re: Oh Onochie O

It was composed by James Oswald (1711-1769) and published in his Curious Collection of 1740. Born in Fife, Scotland, he worked in Edinburgh and London. His most famous publications were his 12-volume Caledonian Pocket Companion books, containing much remarkable music, traditional and some of his own tunes.

Good transcription, Alina. If you want me to nit-pick, I’d say that you do not need a barline at the start of the 2nd and 4th lines.

Thanks so much, Nigel! I’m so happy to learn all this new information about the tune πŸ™‚
