The Wheels Of The Train

I learnt this tune in 1981 sitting in Packie Manus Byrne’s flat in Brondesbury, Kilburn. He told me that the ‘wheels’ were not of a locomotive, but a bride’s long wedding train. The tune is derived from the melody of a ‘wedding disaster’ song (‘My feet got caught in the wheels of her train, And I’ll never be seen at a wedding again’), and is related to The Laird o’ Cockpen.
