Jimmy Young

The beautiful 2/4 march written by the late great Donald Shaw Ramsay.

It’s in 4/4 here, the "march" default on this site. Actually I think these 2/4 marches are easier to read in 4/4, and it saves a load of ink!

Ramsay served as a Pipe Major in the Highland Light Infantry in WWII. After the war he became an Edinburgh policeman and led the Edinburgh Police Pipe Band to a World Championship. He published two volumes of his book The Edcath Collection Of Highland Bagpipe Music.

In 1957 he was shot in the line of duty and retired to San Francisco where he opened a shop. He returned to Scotland in 1965 and led the Invergordon Distillery Pipe Band.

Not for me. If they were written with two note-groupings per bar (2/2?), rather than four, I’d find it easier to read. But that’s maybe just me. I’m a pretty slow reader (of everything).

I like the fourth part - different!
