The Kilfrush Reel

more or less as played by Tommy Reck. I learned this tune from Nollaig Mac Carthaigh at the willie week in approx. 1990

The Kilfrush Reel

This reel is in Ceol Rince na hEireann, Volume 1 under the title of Maids of Tipperary, from the playing of Sean Potts (pipes). The index of that volume also shows alternate titles of Bumper Allen’s Delight and Tom the Fisherman.

Kilfrush ?

So where in Ireland (presumably) is Kilfrush ?

Ignore me - it’s in Limerick.

Bumper Allen’s Delight

I’d picked up this one at a local session, but didn’t know it’s name until I came across it in the Roche Collection Vol III. Here it is, somewhat close to that version:

X: 1
T: Bumper Allen’s Delight
M: C
L: 1/8
R: reel
K: D
dB ||: AFLF2 AFLF2 | AFLF2 GELE2 | A2FA B2AF |1 {F}EDEF EedB :||
|2 EDEF D2 A2 ||: defg afdf | gefd edBA | defg afdf | edef e2dB |
defg afdf | gefd edBA | defg a2ag | f2fe dfdB :|]

This is a single reel as it gets played in our session. It’s too repetitive as a double.
