Also known as The Boys From Dildo.
There are 2 recordings of this tune.
The Boys Of Dildo has been added to 3 tunebooks.
From Alex Sturbaum’s album Atlantic Dreams. Track #4.1. There’s a cheeky wee 3/4 at the end of the B part.
I play this on my A whistle, tranposed to G, to avoid going below the D whistle range.
According to Bandcamp it’s a traditional tune from Newfoundland, I can only assume from the town of Dildo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dildo,_Newfoundland_and_Labrador
Aaron Collis and Emilia Bartellas have a transcription of their setting posted here:
They learned it from an old recording by Mary Whalen of Cape Broyle, which can be found here in the MUN music archived database:
I’ve played around with the tune quite a while ago, changing the B Part a bit to remove the crooked bit. I’ll take a look at that again later and maybe post it.
Have also transcribed a few other polkas/singles from that database, if anyone is looking for them. Not all posted here yet.
Thanks! I’m really enjoying Newfoundland music so I’ll certainly have look.
