This is a great tune from Aly Bain … I think it was originally a march, but it sounds nice as a reel, too.

An American tune

This is An American tune, and Aly Bain acknowledges it as such. Please see the discussion under Copland’s Barndance.

Here are the words. Sung to the low part.

So I held her in my arms
and told her of her many charms
and kissed her while the fiddlers played
the Bonaparte’s Retreat

Need help with sheet music

Hey im new to fiddle and definitely to sheet music, just wondering if theirs low 2’s in this song or not?

Re:

wow, sorry that no one has answered you yet. On this tune there would be a low two on E if you had to play one, but you don’t so, you’re good.

Bonaparte’s Retreat, X:2

A friend presented me with this tune last week as she had been given it to learn.
She had misgivings about the correctness of the transcription and because I was unfamiliar with this version of "Bonaparte’retreat" so I watched the clip of Ali Bain playing it in group. Hope someone finds it useful.
I used www.mandolintab.net/abcconverter.php to check my accuracy. I have used Concertina.net in the past but that seems unavailable now. It is worth checking before submitting and is a very useful way to help the learning process.
I shall now contemplate the ‘Old Timey’ versions.

Re: Bonaparte’s Retreat

I did make a few corrections (only little adjustments I hasten to add) to my ABC after posting so thank you Jeremy for making that possible now.
I have used the dotted quaver, as in a hornpipe, but please, as Ali Bain does, be subtle with it as somehow I have to indicate the ‘swingyness’ in the tune which in turn, I hope, makes it less ‘reely’.

Yet another ‘boney one’. Quite a different tune. You’ll have to transcribe this one CarolineA for us all to see the difference.
