I don’t know anything else about the tune. Do any of you have any info? I’d like to learn where they got it from, it’s a beautiful tune.
It was composed by fiddler Stuart Morison, who played with The Tannahill Weavers, and was in a group called Smalltalk alongside Iain Macinnes and Billy Ross. The three of them were joined by William Jackson to form the revived Ossian group which recorded ‘The Carrying Stream’. The Black Crags, according to the liner notes, is a Fife landmark. Many years ago I once played in a session with Stuart in Fife, as it happens.
Stuart was in another band before any of the above.
The great Ceolbeg. In the early days there was a great flute and whistle player with them as well, but I can’t for the life of me remember his name.
Cheers Nigel, mistery solved 🙂
I recall seeing Ceolbeg even before the great flute and whistle player, of whom Nigel speaks, joined. Mind you, the late Pete Boond was also an excellent player himself.
If my memory is correct, Kenny played with members of the Ceolbeg band in the festival sessions at St Andrew’s but wasn’t officially in the band at the time. Happy days….
