This lovely reel was composed by the accordion player Sheamus Heneghan from Mayo. I believe it was originally written in the key of C (there’s a setting here: https://musicofmayo.ie/caught-in-the-surf/), but I learned this version in D from John Carty, who learned it from Matt Molloy. John Carty suggested playing it after the Mayo Fling (https://thesession.org/tunes/20801).
As a nice variation, you can play the last bar of the A part an octave higher the second time around to lead into the B part:

And the three repeated high As in the second part of the tune are fun to play as triplets.
