A Trip To Woodnote

This jig was written by Jun Takahashi, a Japanese whistle and flute player, who passed away last month. He has been one of the central figures in the Irish music scene in the Kansai area. Involved in various events, he is most often remembered as a regular in the sessions held at Woodnote, a cafe in Kyoto. Since he lived in Shiga Prefecture, he had to make a trip to the venue every time.

Listen to Jun play this tune with a friend:

I myself managed to meet Jun in person only once, but we enjoyed exchanging information on particular tunes, musicians, and many other things related to this music on Facebook.

Jun was a real enthusiast of traditional Irish music, and a true gentleman as well.

May he rest in peace.

Jun Takahashi loved the music of Charlie and Jack Coen. The Branch Line. It’s not flashy, but neither was he. I always enjoyed playing those tunes with him - he was faithful to the music. Rest In Peace.
