Six comments

Here’s the other (first) half of Michael O Rooney’s set on the CD Traditional Music on Fiddle, Banjo & Harp. The second tune is Gort na Mona, which has been entered before.

Tigh Raifeartaigh (another setting)

This great Michael Rooney composed tune is demonstrated by Garry Shannon on the Comhaltaslive programme (28 March to 3 April 2005) at http://www.comhaltaslive.ie. However, he plays it in G as shown below. On checking Michael’s CD "Draiocht" I found that he plays it in "F" so "you pays your money and makes your own choice" !!

That G one is a different tune - Gort Na Mona - not a different setting of this one, altho’ they’re both v similar.

Re: Tigh Rabhartaigh

Would anyone have any info about the actual Rafferty house or Raffertys themselves and whether or not it is a fictional/non fictional setting for this nice (and very playable) little tune? Thanks in advance.

Re: Tír Rafartaigh

I’ve edited the name of the tune to Tír Rafartaigh as this is what the composer, Michael Rooney, calls it. Tír Rafartaigh is the townland he grew up in, in Scotstown, Co. Monaghan.

Re: Tír Rafartaigh

Oh, interesting! So the title doesn’t translate to "Rafferty’s house" at all—more like "Rafferty country"?
