Re: A Farruquina

Where is it from?

Re: A Farruquina

This is a tune I heard on Green Linnet Records: The Twentieth collection. By Milladoiro

Re: A Farruquina Part One

The sheet music for part one is easy to find. I can’t find sheet music for part two. I wrote out part two based on Milladorios version

Re: A Farruquina Part Two

There is a bridge between part one and two. Does anyone know it?

Re: A Farruquina Part One

Sometimes it’s worth checking sheet music lifted off the web as some transcriptions can be a bit dodgy. The one you have posted here is all over the place.

Something like:

X: 1
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
K: Dmaj
d3A BABc|d2A2 B2c2|d2cd edcB|A3F AGFE|

[2F3D FDFA|GFED C4|G2F2 A2G2|[M:2/4]E2C2|[M:4/4] D6||

makes a bit more sense for the part you have posted (and note the second time ending).

A Farruquiña, X:2

This is a polca from the repertoire of Os Campaneiros, a well known family band from Villagarcia in Galicia who performed from the 1920s to the 1980s. It should be in 2/4 and is played at a good pace, at least 120bpm. X:2 is the full four part version as I have it, watch out for the extra beat at the end of part two.

Re: A Farruquina Part Two

I’ve posted the full tune over on the main page, no need for this separate tune listing, can it be deleted?

Re: A Farruquiña

As it’s displaying it with L:1/8 rather than L:1/16 the notation in my X:2 above isn’t great. Here’ s the abc as I have it.

A Farruquiña, X:4

Here are the ABCs with the note lengths halved.Ugly as ABC but should display more accurately as notation and playback at a better speed on this page.

Re: A Farruquina Part One

Good one, bagpie, just beat me to it, but I had to stop for breakfast. I did wonder about 2/4 instead of 4/4 as I only felt two beats to the bar.

Re: A Farruquiña

It’s a great tune, I was given the dots many years ago, probably by my brother in law, and I’ve only ever seen it written in 2/4. Haven’t actually played it much in recent years, need to whip it back into shape. I also have the harmony dots for it, if I find time I’ll add them here. Had a nice session near Oban yesterday afternoon and managed to squeeze in a few tunes on my gaita.

Re: A Farruquiña

A great tune indeed. I think it was the harmony I was hearing in the last eight bars - it seems mostly to be a third up.
