A Tribute To Tom

This tune also remembers and I hope commemorates another great friend and mentor, the Wexford accordionist the late Tom Ferris. I was lucky to play on the Wexford Ceili Band with Tom in the 1970s and 80s, and later with him in The Centenary Stores session for over 30 years. He had an incredible store of tunes, had names (almost invariably correct) for more or less all of them, and could instantly recall them to begin them in a set, even if he hadn’t played the tune for yonks. He like most of those older guys didn’t read music. It was he who coined the phrase “between the golfsticks” to remind the notation readers that the little notes (ornamentation) being put in naturally by him as he played by ear were ‘invisible’ in the sheet music….
