This is a reel from the Feis Ceoil collection of Irish Airs. It was collected in south Wexford in the late 19th century. A very similar tune also appears in the Kilmore manuscript ( more or less same area of Wexford, same era) as ‘The Heather Breeze’ and I find that same tune is in the Roche collection also as ‘The Heather Breeze’ and tunearch.org links it with other cognate reels such as The Templehouse. The title gets mentioned also among the tunes named in Patrick Kennedy’s works (mid 19th century), but interestingly is listed as a jig. Now since there is a jig version of The Templehouse reel, it may not be beyond the bounds of possibility that it existed in both rhythms, jig and reel.
