Dawn On The Strand

I learned this from Éilís Crean’s album Searbh Siúcra. It just immediately struck me as a beautiful tune, and I came here to look for the dots…. and there weren’t any! According to Éilís, it was written by Eddie Kelly, a childhood teacher of hers, who gave her many of his tunes. According to https://www.irishtune.info/tune/7618/ this is the only recording of the tune. And thanks to IrishTuneInfo getting me started with the first few bars.

This setting is in F, as Éilís plays it. As a piper, that won’t work for me. I’ll post in G shortly.

Dawn On The Strand, X:2

As promised, in G this time. I took out the octaves (can’t play on chanter), and cleaned up the triplets. Now I just have to learn to play it!

Dawn On The Strand, X:2

Well, I listened back to the first version I uploaded, and realised that I didn’t the repeats quite right in the B part. So here it is one more time (since I’m not allowed to go back and change what I originally uploaded), and this time with the B part corrected.

Beautiful hornpipe Frank! And yes, you can always edit what you posted. You have to go to the tab “ABC” and there you will see the option “Edit”.

Re: Dawn On The Strand

Thanks for that Fernando - I see how that you’re right. I’ll know for next time!

Re: Dawn On The Strand

Good tune, but there’s something odd about the 1st and 2nd time bars of the A part: they each have 5 beats. Maybe just lose the crotchet rest . . .?

Good catch Bazza. Done!
