The Humours of Ayle House ~ The Kilfinane (jig)

I have a version from ‘Paddy O’Brien’s Sets: Tune Sets Arranged by Paddy O’Brien, Co. Tipperary’, edited by Dave Gabol and John Walsh and available at Ceolas-

http://www.ceolas.org/tunes/

That seems to have a middle part. Here’s the ABC’s-

X:2
T:Kilfinane
M:6/8
L:1/8
R:jig
K:G
A/G/ |: FDE ~F2d | cAA BAG | FDE FdB | cAF GAG |

e |: fdd fed | cAB cde | fdd fed | cAF ~G2g |
fdd fed | cAB cde | faf ded | cAF G2 :|
A/B/ |: cAA fed | cAG ~A2B | cAA fed | cAF GAB |
cAA fed | cAB cde | (4fgaf ded | cAF G2 :|

Although very similar to the second part that was already here, there are a couple of differences, mostly the repeated phrases in bars 1-3,5 & 7. Almost makes for a single first part followed by a double ending (as opposed to the double first part and single ending that you see every once in a while).

Boring the Leather

This is called Boring the Leather in the Goodman collection.

Besom in Bloom

similar in parts to the above tune…

The Humours Of Ayle House, X:7

This is the setting of the Kilfinane jig in O’Neill’s 1001 as number 273.

The tune is also listed in O’Neill’s 1001 as number 261 in the key of G as The Humours Of Ayle House.

And it appears *again* as number 334 under the title When You Go Home!

Re: The Humours Of Ayle House

It’s also in O’Neill’s as number 312 with the title Come With Me Now …so that’s a grand total of four variations of the same tune in that collection.

Re: The Humours Of Ayle House

There is a jig in the Gunn ms, Fermanagh 1865’ called ‘Girls Take Of Your Legs’ with the same first part as all the above settings. The second part is the middle part of setting #3. Mystery solved, will post the setting shortly

Come With Me

Tune number 312 in The Dance Music of Ireland (1907) by Francis O’Neill.

A very nice recording of this tune it is the one made by Kyle Borley. He is doing a great job playing O’Neill’s tunes and uploading all the videos in YouTube. He has the project of playing them all, a long process that is going to take a few years.

He says he is doing his own arrangements to the tunes and they very much depend on the instrument he plays each time (he plays flute, banjo and tin whistle).

I didn’t find this tune in this website, if it’s duplicated please let me know and I will add this ABC as one more setting.

This is the video where Kyle plays the tune:
