This is an Ed Reavy tune, one of his highlands (probably the best), so I’ve allocated it as a strathspey as being more appropriate than a reel.
The first section was taught to me by my teacher, who learnt it from someone else, who got it from someone in Donegal, who got it from etc … anyway you get the picture.
The second section is the Ed Reavy original, so we can see how the tune has changed subtly in passing from one player to another.
Being a highland/strathspey it is played with a dotted rhythm. Watch out for the snaps in various places.
Do we know the origin of this tune? Is this for Bray in the County Wicklow?
From the Ed Reavy website
N:Ed didn’t write many highlands,
N:but the ones he wrote are
N:superb compositions. And this
N:is the best of those highlands
